Decision Time

This time of year brings many decisions for our families. Decisions such as what to do for the Easter holiday, what kind of summer activities do we want our children to participate in and if, when and where a vacation might fit into our plans. Tucked in between all these decisions is probably the most important one. Spring is enrollment time for most if not all the schools in our area and everyone is vying for your child to become a student at their school. CCA is no different. We are in the process of advertising our school and boosting our enrollment for the coming 2011-12 school year. If I may, I
would like to offer some thoughts about this important decision facing each of the families not only at our school, but in the general population as well.

When choosing a school, several questions have to be asked? The first question is what is available for my child? That question is easily answered. Just a look around at the newspaper, the world wide web or any parent magazine in Fort Collins will present you with an array of dizzying choices: public, secular, private, Christian, secular private, private Christian, home school, co-ops, online schools and so forth. The list seems endless, but the answer to the first questions leads to the next question.

This next question is perhaps the most important question of all. In what kind of environment should I place my child? When considering this question, an excellent place to start is with God’s Word. God is very clear on a number of issues regarding the training of our children. The most important example can be found in Deuteronomy 6:4-9 when He instructs the Israelites on how to keep their children from forgetting who the Lord is and what is most important in life. In this passage, God says “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” Obviously this is what we need to teach our children first and foremost. Then the Lord proceeds to explain how to teach loving God and loving people in such a way our children don’t forget these two commands. He says “……teach them (the command about loving God and loving people) diligently to your sons and talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. …..bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. …..write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” Clearly from the text of these verses, we can see what is of value to God and what we are to teach our children to value. Therefore, is the school environment we choose teaching our children to value what God values? Are they in an environment where God is glorified and people are loved through the lifting up of His name and the working through of personality differences and conflicts?

Another verse that goes along with choosing the optimal school for our children is Ephesians 6:4. “Fathers, do not provoke your children, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” Our focus for the purpose of this article is the latter part of that verse. Bringing up children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord can have a variety of applications, but the question for us as parents is, “Are we placing our children in an environment that fosters this idea?” Or are we placing our children in an environment that actually resists our efforts to raise our children in the instruction of the Lord? When we place our children in a place that contradicts our efforts, the picture is one of a trout swimming upstream against the current. It can be done, but at what cost and what expenditure of energy that could be focused elsewhere?

Once parents understand what surroundings are appropriate for their child, the next question to ask is “What type of school is right for my child and our family? This is a very personal question and can only be answered by you and your spouse. When seeking the answer, knowing your child’s personality, character weaknesses and strengths, academic weaknesses and strengths is a must. Placing a child in a school ill-fitted to deal with him or her as a whole person can be a disaster. Another potential disaster is choosing a school that is not compatible with your family life. As mentioned before, Fort Collins has a plethora of choices for education but as parents we want to find a school that fits our family. We also want to find a school that recognizes our family’s need for time together and one that fosters the family as a unit instead of drawing members away from one another. We want to choose a school that has expectations and demands that our family can uphold. In doing so, we will ensure a partnership that will be beneficial on both sides while providing an appropriate fit for our child.

Christian Core Academy’s goal is to provide the optimal environment to help parents uphold the instructions found in the Bible concerning the training of their children. At CCA, we strive to provide a place where students are shown how to love God and love people. We also strive to come along side parents as they seek to bring their children up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord while at the same time offering a strong academic base. Finally, we want to be a family-friendly fit for parents who are trying to balance the demands of family and school as they fulfill their responsibilities in educating their children. Making decisions about our children’s lives is not easy sometimes, but Christian Core Academy is here to provide a viable choice in your child’s educational process.

Auction Help Needed

Our auction will be here before you know it. We count on every family at CCA to do their part to help make this a success for our school and here are some ways to contribute.

Mark your calendar and ask all your friends and family to save the date. Calendars get full quickly and the sooner we can get the date out, the better our attendance will be.

Ask businesses you know for donations that can be auctioned off either at the live auction or the silent auction. Yvette can provide you with a letter that provides our tax exempt info so businesses can benefit from their donation as well.

Contact Yvette Kershner at 443-5639 or e-mail at yvettekersh@gmail.com and ask how you can help with the dinner and auction.

Thanks so much for you willingness to be a part of this exciting night.

Enrollment Forms

Please remember to return enrollment forms this week. After March 1, we will be contacting parents who have not returned their forms to check with them about their plans for next year.

Facebook

Did you know that CCA is on Facebook? Go to our homepage and like us. That gets our name out even more for people to be able to get information about our school.

Spring Break

This year is flying by! Remember that spring break is just around the corner on March 12 -16.

February 13, 2012

Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is Tuesday, so check with your child’s teacher to see what they might have planned for classroom celebrations.

Lost and Found

Please check the lost and found for any items your child may be missing. Summitview is getting ready to donate all lost items to Good Will.

Running Club

We are still having running club each Tues/Thurs. at 7:30. If you are dropping your child off at that time, please make sure they understand they are to run with the club. If they are not doing running club, they need to be dropped off closer to 7:45.

Registration Forms Due

As you probably know, planning for next year starts now. To help us plan and be able to ensure that we provide the optimal education experience for your child, it is important that we know how many students are returning next year. Please, if you have not done so, return the registration form for your child. Thanks so much.

Auction

Our auction is planned for April 20, so mark your calendars and plan to attend this fun event that provides so much for our school. Also, please be thinking about who you can invite to join us.

President’s Day

We will be off for President’s Day on February 20, 2012. This will be a three day week for our school.

January 23, 2012

End of Quarter

Thursday was the end of the quarter so report cards will go home with your child this week. You can also check their final grade on Engrade as well.

Auction

Thanks to those of you who were able to attend the meeting and to those of you who responded saying you could help. I think we are off to a great start. Yvette will be contacting everyone with their volunteer job for the auction. Please be thinking about who you can invite to this fun evening.

Registration

Please remember to send your registration form to school as soon as possible. This helps us to know how many spots we have available for new students and helps with our planning for next year.

Open House

Please continue to get the word out about our Open House this Wednesday, January 25, from 8:30 to 11:30.

Pre-School

We are excited about our new pre-school program so please share the excitement with friends and family who might have an interest in our program.

January 16, 2012

Auction Meeting

Don’t forget about the planning meeting tomorrow at school at 11:00. We are asking that at least one member of each family plan on attending the meeting.

Registration

Registration forms were e-mailed out to current students enrolled at CCA. Please remember to return these forms asap so we can plan for next year and to make sure your students retain their place in their class.

Pre-School Information

CCA is offering two pre-school classes for the fall. We will have a class that will meet Monday/Wednesday and Tues/Thursday from 8:00 – 12:00. The cost will be $180 per student. The classes are filling up fast, so if you have a child you would like to enroll, please let us know and we will send you an enrollment form.

End of the Quarter

January 20 is the end of the quarter. Report cards will be sent home next week with your student. As always, you can check your child’s progress on Engrade.

Running Club

Running club is Tues./Thurs. at 7:30 each week. If you are bringing your child to run, please make sure they understand that you are dropping them off early to join in the run for that morning, not for extra play time. If they are not participating in the running, they can be dropped off around 7:45 instead. Thanks so much for helping us with the logistics for our club.

Open House and Information Meetings
We will be holding an Open House for CCA prospective parents on January 25, 2012 from 8:30-11:00. We would like to have parents with students in the school to be on hand to answer questions and show parents around the classrooms.

We will also be holding information meetings on the first Thursday of February, March and April in order to provide interested parents with more information about CCA. Please pass the word to anyone you might know that is interested in our school.

January 9, 2012

Welcome back to school everyone! We hope everyone had a nice break and that students are now ready to come back to school rested and refreshed for the second half. There is a myriad of things happening at CCA, so please read the newsletter carefully so you don’t miss out on anything. Happy New Year!

Returning Student Registration

We are beginning our returning student registration in January and then will open up our enrollment to new students beginning March 1. In order to hold your child’s spot at the school, we must have the returning registration form by the March deadline. Registration payment is not due until June 1, but we cannot hold a place in the classroom for your child if we do not have a registration form. Forms will be e-mailed out this week and you can return them to your child’s teacher.

Box Tops
We are again collecting Box Tops for a fund raising effort for our school. This year we are doing something a little bit different. We are setting a goal for the classes and when they reach that goal, they will receive a pizza party. The goal for each class is 2000 Box Tops. Because some of the classes are so small, we will be combining a few. 1st and 3rd grade will be collecting together and K and 4th will be a team as well as 6th and 7th. The other classes contain enough students to collect on their own. So cut out those Box Tops and send them to school to help your child’s class reach their goal.

Tuition

January tuition is due Monday, January 9, 2012.

CCA Fundraising Auction and Dinner

Time is drawing near for our annual auction and dinner. This event is very important to our school as it raises money to help fund our school so we can keep the cost of tuition low for everyone. Because we depend so much on the success of this event, we ask that each family be a part of the effort in making this a quality affair. We will be having a planning meeting on Monday January 16 at 11:00 a.m. in the room off the gym. We ask that at least one member of each family attend this meeting. If for some reason you cannot attend, Yvette will then contact you to let you know how you can help with our auction. Please make this volunteer job a priority as the success of the auction depends on each one of us.

Running Club

The normal running club schedule resumes this week.

Dec 12, 2011

Looking Forward

The Board of Directors at CCA met and we have several exciting new projects in the works for next year.

1. We have decided to add pre-school next year. We will be promoting this and would like your help in getting the word out. If you know of someone who has a 4 year old that is looking for a Core Knowledge pre-school, then please pass on Shirley’s contact information to them.

2. With our numbers in the upper school being very strong this year, we are looking to add a fifth grade teacher for next year. We could also use your help in finding just the right teacher for this position, so please let Shirley know if you have someone in mind who might be interested.

3. We will be e-mailing out a letter with all of our opportunities for new families to come and hear about our school in the near future and would like to ask if each family can help pass along this information as well.

Open House and Information Meetings
We will be holding an Open House for CCA prospective parents on January 25, 2012 from 8:30-11:00. We would like to have parents with students in the school to be on hand to answer questions and show parents around the classrooms. We will be sending out a sign up list for parents to choose a time slot that will work for their schedule. We would appreciate the help in promoting our school.

We will also be holding information meetings on the first Thursday of January, February, March and April in order to provide interested parents with more information about CCA. Please pass the word to anyone you might know that is interested in our school.

Tuition

Tuition was due on Monday, December 5, 2011. I

Student Grade Book
Please make sure you are taking advantage of our online grade book, Engrade and keeping up with your student’s progress.

Running Club
We will follow the usual schedule for running club this week.

Christmas Musical

Jennifer will be holding practices from 12:15-2:00 on Wednesday afternoon. This week, we will be providing pizza for the lunch time. If your child would like to have pizza instead of bringing their lunch, please have them bring $2.00 to cover the cost of the pizza. They will need to still bring a drink.

The Christmas Musical is scheduled for 7:00 p.m at Mountain View Community Church. Please feel free to invite someone you know to join us.

Christmas Outreach

We have partnered with the House of Neighborly Services to put together food baskets for a Christmas dinner for a few needy families. HNS, http://honservice.org/index.asp, is a Christian organization that provides emergency services for low income families. Their mission is “Help for today…Hope for tomorrow.

We have decided not to have the students travel to the facilities or deliver the boxes. Instead, we will have everyone bring their assigned item in no later than Tuesday morning. On Tuesday morning, we will meet in the gym and pray over the boxes and Kyle will then deliver them to HNS. Thanks to everyone for participating in this important and much needed project.

Box Tops
We are again collecting Box Tops for a fund raising effort for our school. This year we are doing something a little bit different.
